Lions, and Pumpkins, and Santas... OH MY!

Over at Eric's he has this GREAT post on a picture his Mom had taken of him when he was but a wee lad. The entire post is great, as only Eric can write, but this quote here cracked me up:

... I mean, there I am... sitting upright in a 3/4-facing position... jaw slack... eyes slightly unfocused.... head like a cueball with only the faintest sheen of the coppery-red that would soon be blossoming... and, I'm dressed to the nines in a genuine blue and white pinstriped Railroad Conductor's uniform... complete, people... jacket.. trousers... and waistcoat...

Now to you women folk, can't you just picture this? And how many of you Mom's out there haven't done the same thing to your wee ones? All of us have. You just can't help it. Their big bald heads. Their dopey little expressions. They're so cute, you could just eat them up.

They're BEGGING to be messed with. Really.

We have so many dopey pictures of my kids. I love all of them. When I get my scanner working I'll scan some in, but I have babies dressed as a pumpkin sitting in a pumpkin patch amongst the pumpkins.

I have a baby wearing a Santa hat, holding a package and behind him sits a big stuffed animal that's supposed to look like a reindeer, but looks more like a St. Bernard had his way WITH a reindeer.

I have babies in hooded towels that were sewn to look like ducks.

Toddlers dressed as lions, bumblebees, and ladybugs.

I have a baby surrounded by stuffed animals... so he looks like one of them.

That's half the fun of having kids. Dressing them up. I'm telling you... on the weeks you've not gotten but 2 hours sleep, the kids have been crying, someone is always unhappy... its those pictures that keep you going. Seriously.

Ha! When my boys were one I dressed them up like little train conductors and decorated their looong triple stroller like a train engine. Too cute. Their first halloween I dressed them up as the three peas in a pod. We've done three of the 101 dalmations (I cut black felt spots for days), Superman, Batman and Spider-Man, the three musketeers (I did an awesome job on those, I must say) and two Knights Templar and a Wizard.

The best costumes were when my niece had a birthday party with the "Miss Spider's Tea Party" theme and everyone was supposed to come dressed as a bug. Being a smartass, I made my three year-olds little Orkin Man costumes complete with, hats, epulets, ties and spray pump bottles. They were a hit - awesome pics of those costumes. This is the first year that we bought their costumes except for the "Superfriends" year. They insisted. I guess my "cool" costumes aren't their kind of cool anymore. Great pictures, though.

Hell, at least the kids had on clothes. My mom had a couple of pages of photos she claimed was me when I was a wee one, well I never was actually a wee one, from the time I was about a month old until about eight months old and every dam one of the pictures showed a baby on its belly bare ass sticking up for the camera. It was the first thing she would pull out if I brought a new girl friend around. BUt mom would wait until the third or fourth time the girl came visiting before she would show a home movie of me at eleven, thirty pounds over weight, and scratching my butt and picking my nose. But at least I had on clothes.

I remember those pictures. You told me you took 100s of pictures just to get them all smiling at once. ;-)

I have one picture in our bedroom when the kids were little- they are all smiling at once, but you can see the red mark on the daughter's cheek where one of her brothers had just whopped her a good one.

Then ya'll understand why I like dressing my puppies up.

They are just to darn cute in their clothes, which I have a matching set of sweaters for them now.

I have to get a picture to post of that to drive Harvey insane this time.

We have several pics like those of my kids. I always tell my daughter they're the "first boy she brings home" pics. :)

I have my kid dressed as a pea pod and then we have the gratuitous nekkid pics, but my favorite is my son and nephew running through the kitchen nekkid and extremely excited cause they are headed for the bathtub, all you see is pink bottoms and flying hands!
