Under a Musicless Rock, Evidently

I have a hotmail account, so Iím usually on MSN a couple times a day, perusing the headlines.

Lately a small byline has been about some guy names John Mayer who is in some sort of concert.

Should I know who he is? They act like I should. And I donít.

Now I am asking myselfÖ do I care that I donít know who he is?

The answer that resonates through my head isÖNo.

I shall now return to that rock under which I appear to liveÖ

Madonna's first husband was Sean Penn. John Mayer would have been around 5 years old when Madonna first got married.

John Mayer's song on the radio right now is "Waiting for the World to Change". He's actually from Atlanta.

Oh, this may help. He was the one "rumored" to be dating Jessica Simpson when he wasn't. So maybe you saw his picture in the grocery aisle.

Mayer? Doesn't he make aspirin?

I'm with Sissy on this. I KNOW you've heard his music. If you listen to the radio, which you do, you have heard it. He's a great musician but I also agree he is overplayed. I have a CD of his, I'll bring it home over Christmas.

Want to know how I know who Madonna is? My barber in Ann Arbor had a stack of Playboy magazines for his customers to "read" while we waited. That was the year Madonna posed for that magazine. It was a strange name for an otherwise forgettable picture.

i heart him and can't wait for Frank to surprise me with his latest CD. some of his hits:
My Stupid Mouth
Why Georgia
Your Body is a Wonderland
Clarity
No Such Thing (they played this one over and over and over for years... "I wanna rock through the halls of my high school. I wanna scream at the top of my lungs. I just found out there's no such thing as the real world. Just a lie you've got to rise above...")

I'm surprised you don't know who he is. I'm not sure you'd like him. He's okay...he's very talented...but overplayed.

I am with Bou, I saw the same ad and I have no friggin' clue who he is.

Posted by: Raging Mom at November 3, 2006 11:06 AM

Wasn't he Madonna's first husband?

Posted by: Angus of Glasgow at November 3, 2006 11:26 AM

Dad... first, I can't believe YOU know who Madonna is. I feel certain I got a piece of my rock from the frickin' BOULDER under which YOU live. Second... hey, maybe, except I saw his picture and he looks kinda young.

Sissy will know. So, Sissy? Madonna's first husband?

I'm not sure why my comments are all jumbled up. They are no longer in order...

Dad- at the Barber's huh? Oh. yes. Those were the days. Why just yesterday I left a comment on Eric's blog as he was lamenting his losing his hair. I quoted you. "Some men use their testosterone to grow hair. Others use it for other things." Heh.

Have you seen the Volkswagen commercial with John Meyer playing the First Act guitar? I'm a big fan and his new CD, Continuum, is his best yet.

Here's the commercial if you haven't seen it.

Recognize him? He used to have shorter hair.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't know who he is. He's in Australia at the moment, I heard him being interviewed on the radio on the way home, interviewers were all gushy (what an honour this is blah blah blah), he was a special guest at our ARIA awards (Aus music awards).

Oh, yeah, I've seen that commercial. I had no idea who the kid playing the guitar was. He's supposed to be good, huh? Can he play country?
