A Mom With a Very Little Brain

I need an ‘Empty/Full’ magnet for my washing machine. I do so much laundry and sometimes I forget I have a load in there… until 2 days later I open it and there a load has been sitting… getting sour.

I hate it when that happens.

So I need a magnet to remind myself I’ve run a load. I seem incapable of remembering I’ve done laundry.

I know you’ve seen jokes about it, but seriously, my day can go something like this (a peek inside my mind… a scary thing)

“I need to get that laundry out of the washing machine. *walking through the kitchen* What is this spill on the floor? *gets paper towels, notices I’m out, goes to pantry to get some* Oh this pantry is a mess. Why are these bags on the floor? *picks up bags and straightens pantry. Closes pantry* Oh crap. paper towels. *gets paper towels and cleans mess* There are dishes in the sink again… *cleans dishes in sink* what am I going to cook for dinner? Oh chicken. We’ll have Chicken Divan. Do I have broccoli? *looks through fridge for ingredients and makes list* Oh I need to buy new snacks for their lunches too… *goes back into pantry to assess food for kids. Goes back to fridge and notices paper on counter* I need to file some of this paper… *

And on and on it goes. Notice I never made it back to the laundry room? The thought never again crossed my mind that I had laundry in the machine? No. And I can pass by it and be totally oblivious. Usually I remember the next morning when some kid says, “Mom! I need a PE uniform!” If something like that hasn't occurred… then I don’t remember.

I need a magnet. I’m going to have to start looking for one…

hahahahahahaha.

I do the same thing. Except ours is in the garage. Downstairs. Convenient for forgetting...

I do the exact same thing. Except, I'm not near as busy as you and I still forget there is laundry in there. I sometimes have to wash the same load 2-3 times.

Screw the magenet....they need to make something like Mo's Roomba that does laundry!

It's called adult ADD. Welcome to my world!!

Right there with ya. But you have to actually SEE the washing machine to see the magnet. And my washer is in the room between the garage & kitchen- I only see it if I am leaving, and I probably wouldn't stop if I saw the magnet because, with two little ones, I'm ususally running late, or if I specifically go out there for laundry. I'm just a hopeless case!

Bou,

As you know there are two ADHD kids in this house and one of them is me.

My son and I clip an oven timer to the pocket of our jeans and set it for 25 minutes. When it starts to beep, we know it is time to put the clothes in the dryer. Why is it that we have buzzing dryers but not washers?

And yes, I am man enough to admit, I do laundry every other week, alternating with the ladies.

OMG!, I think I have the same Boudiccatosis, not just with laundry, but everything. Good to know I'm not alone, though.

Oh please... You can *so* sit by me. I am absolutely amazed that I get anything accomplished some days.

I just thought I'd let you know, this morning when I walked past the washer, I smelled something rank. I opened the washer and there was a load. The last time I did laundry was last weekend. So that load has been sitting there for a week.

I just KNOW I have to do 2-3 loads a day. With 6 people in the house, school uniforms, 'play' clothes and all that, there's no way I can avoid it. I'm generally putting a load the dryer and starting another one each day as I leave for work. I don't need a magnet...I just need the kids to grow up and leave.

I once sat down to pay bills and the next thing I knew, I was folding laundry at the kitchen table.

I think I had gotten up to sharpen a pencil and had a paper towel/pantry episode very similar to yours.

Went back to the desk and found I hadn't written one single check in the past half hour.

*sigh*

I wish we had washers that buzzed. It would help a lot. Or maybe not. I usually have one in the dryer, too. That one takes longer.

I don't know what would help.

Maybe having to go to the river and clean the clothes with a washboard and stones. I don't think I'd forget them then.

Ha! I am not alone! And to think it will only get worse after the baby gets here......

HELP!
