Magical Days

Today has been Harry Potter Friday.

We took the kids to see the movie today and we loved it. Much candy was consumed and it was all around a good time.

And tonight. I can’t even frickin’ believe this. I am taking my older boy to go wait in some line so we can get the book at midnight.

Holy crap.

This is insane. The weird ass crap we do for our kids.

I remember four years ago, when he was but 8 and had just read the first two books, when one of the new books came out, my brother called me and said, “So were you one of the masses waiting out there at midnight?”

My reply was, ‘Hell no.’

Yeah. Well. Now I am.

It is amazing what you will do when your child loves to read. It actually occurred to me a couple years ago, when he read each of the books over and over and over, that I’d stand in line for him. And when the last book came out, we were in Atlanta, and Morrigan drove out at midnight to pick it up, only to find that the store hadn’t put the books out. She came back and told him to wake her up in the morning and she’d go out with him to get it. I think by 6AM, he was kneeling outside the bedroom door, peeking in, wishing her awake.

So I am off to take my eldest to the book store, to wait with the masses for the final installment of Harry Potter at the stroke of midnight. There will evidently be 'events' tonight. Good grief.

One day I’ll sit down and read them. I’ve enjoyed the movies… one day I’ll actually read them as well.

**Update- We are home now, at 12:41. He walked out of Barnes and Nobles with his book at 12:18. He is in the den reading. I told him to read as late as he wants, but realize he has to be up at 9AM to do some family stuff. That should be interesting... I was looking for other cars on the road with an adult driving and a light on in the car with a kid reading. I suspect there are many of those tonight. Cracks me up... **

Another good reason why I discourage my kids from reading....

(it's a joke people)

I was first in line for the midnight selling of Jenna Jameson's book.

What???? I didn't know she could write!

Who in the hell is Jenna Jameson?

Ask your friend, the Streetmaster.

I noticed the traffic was horrible yesterday... people were already clogging the bookstores! UPS hasn't shown up with my copy yet... :(

I bet you'd like the books; I think they're better than the movies. ;)

That's awesome!! I have yet to go pick my copy up - and as big of a HP fan *I* am, that's saying something. Moving makes everything take a back seat... But I am going soon.

How does he like it so far??

Posted by: Richmond at July 21, 2007 07:23 AM

Steph- I get it. Blech

VW- Just wait. This is twice in a month now I've been out so late!

Pam- It was packed, but moved quickly.

Steve- I don't lis ten to music or radio when I blog. Actually, at home in general I don't. I'm a quiet type person. And talk radio I just would not do. I can't lis ten to them all. They make me nuts.

Richmond- I think he likes it! He was reading when I went to bed at 1, telling me he'd go to bed at 1:30 and he woke up at 9 and started reading again.

Bou - Steve is comment spam.

I'll just wait for my Amazon copy and yes, I have read all of the Harry Potter books. It is great that Ringo likes to read so much. I'll bet you read to him when he was but a young lad.

Jenna Jameson wrote a book? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My Amazon copy showed up today. Good thing, too, because SWMBO saw a pile of 'em at Costco earlier today and immediately started giving me grief about ordering it from Amazon and having to wait for it to arrive.

Whatever happened to delayed gratification? ***ducks as shoe flies past head***

Got mine via Amazon this afternoon as well. The wife waited for me to get home before opening it, but that will be the last I see of it for awhile. That's OK though. I am in the middle of Order of the Phoenix right now and will read the next one again before Deathly Hallows. There's another Alan Dean Foster book I haven't even cracked yet that I want to read first as well.

NO way I was getting my kids out in the middle of the night for that.

Where can I find that Jenna Jameson book BTW. Is it a pop-up picture book?

What about the adult driving AND reading at the same time?

Just kidding... I didn't do that. I *wanted* to, but I didn't. I made myself wait until 12:45 when I got home. [sigh] I'm too d@mn old to stay up all night, too, I'm sad to report. I only made it to 2AM, then had to get some shuteye before waking up and spending the ENTIRE day on my bed reading.

I am pathetic. :) How did your son like it?

Posted by: Gradual Dazzle at July 21, 2007 08:45 PM

GuyK- It is a good movie. It is more 'adult' as the kids are growing up. I will say, w/out giving anything away, that they do flashbacks and it really clues you in as to how much these kids have grown up within these movies!

Denny- We read to him the most of all our kids. I wish we'd been more diligent with the others... but I was tired.

Elisson- Richmond is the funniest about her books. Holy crap, she stalked her mailperson!

Richard- I only took Ringo, who is 12. The kid is at that stage where he'd stay up until 2AM and wake at noon if I let him. So he was gung ho and we had a GREAT time.

Gradual Dazzle- We have not seen much of him today. Just for the essentials like... food. He seems to be enjoying it. Between reading and playing his new bass guitar (a post I've not written yet about our new noise), he is in hiding. Every now and then I peak my head in to make sure he's alive.

As for Jenna... I take it that her brains are not the assets that are attracting you men to her. Sheesh. Its because she might sew her own clothes, right?
