Easter Traditions

We're going out of town for Spring Break, off to see the little Chubbalina who is turning into just a chunky little ball of love.

We're so excited.

But before we make our way out of town, I had to go to the store and buy the traditional Easter Basket goodies for the boys. We return Easter Eve. I don't need to be stressing about 'basket faves' upon our return.

There is a chocolate store down the road where I get their chocolate bunnies and assorted goodies, but the bulk of the candy comes from our local grocery store.

Peanut Butter cups are a favorite of my spouse's, so I always get Peanut Butter eggs.

The Pooping Chicken has become an obligatory treat. Nothing says Happy Easter, and "He has Risen" like a plastic chicken that poops bubblegum.

As if a chocolate bunny does either...

Last year I was going nuts trying to find Peeps. I COULD NOT FIND THEM ANYWHERE.

Who in the world does not carry Peeps? As much as I HATE Peeps, they are most definitely a yardstick to the quality of the basket, I mean, come on, YOU HAVE to have a Peep in the basket.

This year?

Everyone and their brother is carrying Peeps. And when did Peeps come in all these daggum colors? It used to be traditional yellow. Now we have green, blue, pink, orange and... red.

Red Peeps. Deep Blood Red Peeps.

Honestly? I couldn't bring myself to buy a box. It looked like Peep murder had occurred.

Now I'm thinking I should have bought it and created a little Peep killing scene.

Maybe not.

This year, I had a tough time finding Cadbury Eggs. Every boy gets ONE.

Tell me... do any of you REALLY like Cadbury Eggs? Really? Because every time I eat one, I think I can actually feel my pancreas shutting down and my vision degrading my kidneys failing.

Those eggs do such bad things to my blood sugar, it can take until the next day until I'm not all whacked out.

Yet, I bought one for each of the boys. I'm not sure what I was thinking.

So that pretty much covers our traditional baskets, Bunny, Peeps, a few chocolate eggs, Gum Pooping Chicken, PB Eggs, and a Cadbury Egg. I also throw in a few toys, clothes or something as well.

What is tradition in your family? What do y'all put in the baskets?

And... I always buy a different bunny for me... dark chocolate. Everyone else gets... milk.

I actually like cadbury eggs. I ate one for breakfast once . . . what? It's an egg . . . albeit a chocolate one. They don't scramble so well. ;) Oh, today? I had a chocolate covered peep.

"Now I'm thinking I should have bought it and created a little Peep killing scene."

I think that raising 3 boys is having an effect on you. I to like the dark chocolate bunnys, a higher antioxidant / calorie ratio.

Almost time to start calling you....

as a child, cadbury eggs were my favorite, and i could eat a bunch of them each season. as an adult, i can MAYBE eat one a year. MAYBE. I think it's been 2 years since I had one, which is why I want one this year.

My kid isn't big on candy. I always buy those fuzzy pipe cleaner-like chicks from Michaels or JoAnns. Love 'em. This year, she's getting a can of silly string. We all are. I'll regret that when the silly string war needs to be cleaned up. The chicks are a staple. Jelly beans. Since she isn't big on candy, I try to get things my MIL likes. So... everything then! They're all white choc freaks. Blech. What's the point?

It's harder to know what to put in now that she's almost a teenager. I'm probably going back to Staples where I saw funky shaped paper clips and other weird office supplies I know she'll love that will fit inside plastic eggs.

Oddy- I'm frickin' twitching at the thought of eating one. Seriously. My body so cannot handle the sugar! Gah!

VW- You almost made this post. I almost put, "And in just over a week, VW will be calling me relentlessly to let me know that the little dark chocolate bunnies are on sale for a frickin' buck." Heh.

Web- OK, this is a chicken/egg scenario I think. Did I have three boys and got like this or was I like this before and so I was blessed with three boys? Just wait until you see those blood red peeps. You'll see it! You'll think, 'Red Rum!." :)

Writersblock... Silly string! YES! My nephews will be here too... including my soon to be college bound 6'4" nephew. I need to buy them BOTH some so the boys can go play in the yard!!!

My new fasination is Carmello chocolate bunnies. They can take all the pain and missery away!

And also love the reese peanut butter eggs, yummy!

Each of our kids has his favorite candy. The daughter likes Turtles, oldest boy likes Toblerone, middle boy likes Milk Duds, and youngest boy likes Charleston Chew. Those go in individual baskets as well as Christmas stockings. This year I also found some small cans of barbecue-flavored almonds. Something that we took to putting in baskets: granola bars or individual small cereal boxes (like you get in those packs) and a bottle of juice. Since they go for those things as soon as they wake up, that kind of works. It's still pretty sugary, though.

By the way, did you notice they have shrunk the size of Cadbury eggs? I'm not real fond of them; I agree with you - dark chocolate is best. White chocolate is an abomination.

Oh, and by the way, you need to microwave the Peeps. That's what you do with them ;) .

QW- Carmello Chocolate bunnies? I shall be searching for them this week!

Peggy- I did notice that! (Cadbury shrinkage.) But I just can't do them. Gah. And we LOVE microwaving peeps. You have to keep an eye on them though... the burn from the inside out.

Denny- I figured I'd give you a holler. I'm here now. I leave Saturday. I'll be calling!
