A Half a Century Ago...

My husband turned 50 today! Whoo hooo! I've been planning his birthday dinner for a couple weeks now. I took a half day off of work, and came home to prepare.

I set the dining room table with our fine china. I went to the local fish and meat markets and bought fresh lobster tails and filet. I stuffed the lobster tails, which was experimental and I used way too many shallots, but nobody complained becaus lobster is lobster afterall and we don't get that too often here.

I made his requested cake of chocolate with chocolate chips with chocolate icing. (Nope, I not only didn't have one piece, but it didn't bug me in the least. I was fine without it.)

And I had a special gift for him... I got him 8 laps around the Daytona Speedway in a NASCAR type racing car. He's very excited!

Last night we were in bed. I looked over and said to him, "Wow. Tomorrow night I'm going to be sleeping with a 50 year old man. HOW.IN.THE.HELL.DID.THAT.HAPPEN?"

He just kind of laughed.

But really. How in the hell did that happen?

Happy Birthday, Hunhead!

OMG! I can't believe it happened. 50 years. Though I bet he is psyched about the race car drive. Keep it going for another 50 you two!

Happy Birthday, Bou's hubby!

And if 50's old, then I'm in trouble...! ;-)

Happy Birthday, Bou's Hunhead.

I'm with Pam ... been there, done that, the t-shirt is already worn out.

The 50s aren't any worse than the 40s, just different aches and pains. Oh, and his doctor will schedule a colonoscopy for him after the next physical. (Woot) Or he could be like John of Argghhh and defer that until he is my age.

Woo! Happy Birthday to Hunhead!

Terrific present you got for him! I love it.

I'm still wondering how I ended up being over 50 but I guess it happens to the best of us no matter how hard we try otherwise. ;-)

Happy Boitday, Mr. Bou.

Fifty is a snap. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Happy happy to your Hunhead!

My "hunhead" turns 55 this year, and I am also saying WTF? How in the hell did I end up with a Senior Citizen?! Heh! (Amazingly, he looks so good still that he actually gets carded sometimes. I guess I got lucky with him!)

Happy Birthday to your husband too! I can't beat the present my husband got last year for his birthday from his Squadron. A flight in an F-15 going Mach 5 or some such crazy number. (It happened to fall near his birthday)

Now I'm wondering if he could settle for a few Daytona-like laps...

He's gonna love that present. My best friend is a real motorhead - loves to drive, the faster the better. His wife got him one of those driving school for racers courses (Bob Bondurant - something like that) and he just loved it. Now he goes to all the track days he can and gets to drive all the cars he would love to own for a few laps. I would never have thought of a gift like that but when you think about it, for some people that is just about the perfect gift.

Ahh what a great gift you gave him. It's always nice to find out their interests and pursue something that will knock their socks off. When your dad turned fifty I got him a ride in a Stearman. The owner was great guy and your dad flew it for over an hour. He said he'll never forget it and loved every moment. Like riding in a convertible in the sky (my take).
