Time and Energy

The talk at work has been the series of hurricanes forming in the Atlantic: Danielle, Earl... and the upcoming Fiona.

On a sidenote, Bones is exceedingly upset that once again, the hurricane center did NOT pick his name for this season's naming list. Perhaps this is a 'hurricane country' thing for kids, waiting to see if every season your name is selected? I dunno...

Anyway, I told them all not to worry. We won't take a hit because I don't have the time or the energy.

There was a resounding, "Oh, of course. Why didn't we think of that? We can ALL sleep easy now. Bou doesn't have the time or energy, so we're all safe."

I remember being a kid and watching Romper Room... every week I'd wait anxiously as she looked in her magic mirror and every week I was very disappointed that she didn't "see" me... never ever did she mention "Teresa" *sigh* I know just how Bones feels.

From your lips to God's ears! Amen.

See now, I am pretty sure that the fact that we got our house under contract makes it a certainty that we WILL get a hurricane. Plus, I just rebuilt my balcony from the last round of hurricanes so that's an invitation to weather if I've ever heard one. Plus, my mom planted a new garden at her house, so that's worth at least a stalled tropical depression. I'm afraid optimistic capital investments trump "too busy" in the mind of a hurricane season. Find the can opener and sort your shutters, with my apologies.

I'm running under the "I'm prepared, so naturally it won't hit us" theory. (And if you aren't prepared by now, you're Certifiably Clueless.)

My theory seems to work with local rainstorms: I volunteer outside at the zoo, and since I started wearing waterproof shoes and carrying a plastic bag to protect hearing aids, cellphone and such, I haven't been rained on a bit.

Leigh- No! Bite your tongue! Hey, congrats on the offer on the house! You have to admit, though, that house has some GREAT hurricane stories. Like... you and your three boys waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to show up, expecting as my boys and I would... Army men, only to find a Civilian type with lots of Guatamalans... who then, if I recall, crawled all over your roof, only to see one of them fall off your roof into that hurricane dirty pool. We still laugh!

It would be really cool if "Bones" ended up as the "B" name in the hurricane list, but we will never see it, the people at the National Hurricane Center just aren't that creative.

I feel confident that a hurricane will never carry my name... lol :) Bones has a fighting chance!
