Finally Finished

My son took his online Geometry final this evening. He came out after he logged on and said, 'MOM! They said I have FOUR HOURS to take this test!"

I swear to you, it took him darn close to four hours. I'm just at a loss. Why in the world would a semester exam be four hours? The kid has a 96 average in the class and it took him every bit of three hours.

I came back into the bedroom to see how he was doing and he had stacks and stacks of calculations.

After he submitted... there were NINETY problems, he found he missed six. He's still waiting on the essay questions to come back to see his final grade, but when I went through it and said, 'For sure you missed six' he replied, 'I don't even care anymore. My brain hurts...' and he went to bed.

What in the world are the kids doing that are struggling? Holy crap.

But what occurred to me is that this coming year, which starts Monday, some of Ringo's friends are going to be in T's Algebra II class. It's odd enough that he's a year ahead in math, but the fact he'll have some of Ringo's friends in his class, two years older, hadn't really hit me until today.

I don't think it's hit HIM yet. I know one of Ringo's worst fears was that T was going to move through the math so quickly they'd end up in the same Pre-Calc class. He said, 'I don't want to hear any teachers asking me why I can't be like my younger brother...'

This is going to be an interesting year. I'm not saying anything to T. We'll see how this shakes out.

Holy Crap! FOUR hours for one exam? None of my college exams went past an hour and a half, and if you were getting an 95% or better in a class, you didn't have to do the exam (It wouldn't get factored into the grade)

That school is insane.

ugh. school sucks, now their home schooling part sucks... how are the kids suppose to learn under all this stress?

That's what I said, my college finals didn't last four hours. Granted, he is in the Honors class, but my MASTERS finals didn't take four hours. Nobody can sit that long.

He kept getting up to take breaks. It was just too dang long.

Ha ha ha ha.... Our Nav exam at USNA was so long they gave us box lunches. Now THAT'S an exam!

Dad- Well, does it count that half way through, instead of a box lunch, he got up and got a bowl of ice cream? ;-)

I was finishing the fat baby's quilt when he walked through. I said, "What are you doing? Aren't you taking an exam?"

He replied, 'I can't sit there anymore. I'm getting ice cream and then I'll go back."

Gives credence to my theory when they first cut their first teeth, "It's all about the snacks..."

This right here is the very reason I HATE online classes. I see lots of people pushing this as a great option and I don't see it. It's relentless, there's no give and take in information flow and the teacher is not sitting in the room with the students so it's way too easy to overload. Thus they plan an exam that is physically painful - for a HS math class???? Idiots.

I have tried but honest to Pete I can not sit through online classes. Is there any complaint recourse? Is this the first time they've given the course online? It could be called into question by asking if those who take the class in school have to sit for a 4 hour exam.

I took the CISSP exam. They gave us 6 hours, I finished in 90 minutes and thought that would kill me sitting that long. I can't imagine working on one for 3 hours! Holy crap!
