First Semester... Almost finished

My son is coming home next week after his first semester in college. He's ready.

I recommend the summer semester if they can swing it. He knows what it's about now and he figured it out without 60,000 other kids around him.

Yes, his school is now the largest school in the nation.

I can tell by his text messages that he's done with it. He's ready for new classes. I felt that way at the end of every semester.

He's been cooking for himself, but lamenting that it's a real struggle to eat healthy. So when he comes home, I'm going to make some suggestions for him.

I think he's officially sick of bagels.

And I think he has a huge appreciation for how we eat here... there is always fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meats, an assortment of cheeses. We don't drink coke here (that's Southern for soda) and we don't do fried.

So, if anything, this six weeks has given him an appreciation for food.

And there is the laundry thing. When he came to my parents' home for the 4th, he showed up with a suitcase full of dirty clothes. I suspect when we pick him up next week, we'll be picking up a car full of dirty clothes...

We'll be happy when he comes home. It's only for a couple weeks, but we miss him.

And that was only a (doubled up) half semester. Wait til he gets a real one.

At least he didn't do what I did the summer I taught (and took classes). I was awake for the entire finals week in order to take my finals and grade the ones I gave to my students.

Needless to say, I let my Mom drive home when we left while I slept during the hour drive.

That was the summer I bought the Revere Ware (that I still have). We also have (and use) the half-sheet baking sheets I made and used to make cookies in the table-top oven.

For cleaning socks here's a tip. Put water to cover socks in a microwaveable bowl and nuke for ten minutes. Be very careful when removing.

Nah, he took the easy route, but I think he just hates the classes he's taking. One in particular he has come to loathe. But that happens every semester...

I called him last night at 11:45 before I went to bed to see how he was. I got, "Hey, Mom, I'm at the gym. Can I call you back?" 11:45 and he was at the gym. That was at night.

Mom- Wait. No soap?!

When the gym is open 24 hours, you take access to the equipment when you can.

Whoops, yes don't forget soap. While they dry, head to the gym and get the next pair ready to be nuked.
